Members of a family is placed in a Victorian mansion, a cabin in the woods, or a mud but and expected to live as their ancestors did hundreds of years ago. In the age of computers and microwaveable dinners, what is realistic about foraging for berries or pounding out laundry on a rock or an old-fashioned washboard. Still another version of reality programming show the lives of celebrities.
On an episode of one show, a former model and her decorator, who is redoing the star’s bedroom in pink and leopard, has a conference. Then the celebrity and her entourage take off in a limo to Las Vegas. Where she and her entourage stay in a huge hotel suite and visit casinos, bars, and strip clubs. For most people; however, reality does not involve limos, decorators, or a lavish lifestyle. True reality TV would follow a commuter through heavy traffic or show a parent rushing to get their children off to school. Strangely enough, a true reality program might also feature people sitting in front of the TV. And watching silly shows.
