Scenario: At 3:25 p.m., the police are called to a hit-and-run scene. The victim is a 17-year-old female student of George Washington High School, who was taking her usual after-school run on State Street. According to eyewitnesses, the student was running south on State Street when a car that was swerving in and out of the yellow line hit her from behind. In the chaos of the incident, the driver and passenger, realizing what had just occurred and covering themselves up, ran due east, leaving the vehicle behind. On arrival at the scene, the police discover the victim is unconscious and unresponsive. On further examination, the police discover shattered glass a few feet from the victim’s head from the driver side window, dark red paint across the victim’s torso, black medium hair on the headrest of the vehicle on the driver’s side, finer short blonde hair on the passenger side lower seat, and pink fiber on the bumper of the car from the victim’s shorts. The victim is taken to Community Hospital, where she is later pronounced dead.
