Camille Nunez

One paradigm that has maintained true after the 1930’s is that women could become successful in higher education more than just finishing and vocational schools. Thanks to the collaborative efforts of social reformers such as Grace and Edith Abbott, Alice Hamilton, Julia Lathrop and Florence Kelly, the paradigm shift significantly changed the outlook of women in higher education and in the work force. Nursing, teaching, social work and home economics were common subjects that women were able to study instead of traditional “feminine courses” (Carter, 1986). Women of color, Jewish and middle-class women began to find more opportunities in community colleges, universities and in the work place as the years progressed. This has allowed girls to see their future open to whatever they would like to be or study. This was previously unthinkable for girls until the change in the way people viewed higher education and the role of women in the workforce.

Evans, N. J., Forney, D. S., Guido, F. M., Patton, L. D., & Renn, K. A. (2010). Student development in college: Theory, research, and practice (2nd ed.).

Anthony Patrick

Evans et al (2010) noted that foundational student development theories have continued to shift over time. In spite of these paradigmatic shifts, student affairs principles have remained grounded in common tenets for more than 70 years. A tenet is a belief or supposition that maintains relevance over time. In your initial post, present a personal student affairs philosophy statement that is justified by the readings, and addresses these four tenets:

Effective Performance
Collaboration
Diversity and Inclusion
Identity
After reading the text and reviewing and reflecting on both the critical Paradigm and Cultural Paradigm, there are points about these two paradigms that stands out as major key points that shadows student development and supports the tenets of effective performance

collaboration, diversity/Inclusion, and identity. As we know, school and education has also been govern and ran like a business since it existence. The critical paradigm serves as a educational shift of promoting the deconstructions of laws of organizations that uses it power for inequity amongst school (Evans et al, 2010). In the collegiate setting, many students are suffering for the inequity of effective performance, instruction, and support given by the faculty. The Student development process is weakened when the performance level of the student is not at the proper level. The Cultural Paradigm also plays a huge role in supporting student development. The cultural paradigms discussed the truth about the socially constructed idea of “invisible gender, culture, sexuality, class, language, and even personality preferences. A college campus has more than 10, 000 students enrolled. Many of those students are obligated to collaborate with one another in order to develop a sense of effectiveness in their school work. Since the process of Student development encompasses the idea of meeting the students where they are, enhancing their skills and assets to be beneficial to the world they live in. It is important the students act on the use of collaboration and the understanding of diversity and practicing and modeling the act of inclusion. The ar many factors that can influence a student perception and interpretation of what their are learning. The Key idea of student development to help the student form their identity. How does this student see themselves in this world. Especially for students of color at a higher level institution. Many times their identity can be challenged or unknown and maybe even altered n order to determine their success. Overall, I believe that in order to ensure all students are gaining the tools that are needed to help them grow into a well rounded and educated human beings, schools I must continue to make it a priority to look at all aspect of a student and thing guide them down the path that results in flourishing their development skills.
