Assignment #3 – E-commerce Shopping Carts – Comparison and Selection Presentation
Assume you are the E-commerce Manager for a company that wants to start selling its products online. The
business has a current product inventory of approximately 1,500 SKUs (SKU = stock keeping unit) and expects
online sales (in the U.S. and internationally) to be around $150,000 in the first year. The company is
experiencing rapid growth and anticipates that its inventory will grow to approximately 10,000 SKUs in the next
4 years and forecasts online sales to reach over $1 million in 4 years.
The company CIO wants you to select a modern, secure, fully-functional, and scalable e-commerce Shopping
Cart solution that will efficiently and quickly allow it to start selling its products online. The solution you select
must accommodate the current and future inventory and sales volumes, and allow for further grown beyond year 4. At a minimum the cart must also meet the list of requirements listed below.
Shopping Cart Key Requirements:
- mobile-friendly / responsive (allow ordering via smartphones or tablets)
- product reviews and ratings
- custom shipping options and/or integration with third-party carriers (UPS, FedEx, USPS)
- coupon and/or discounts codes
- payment processing and integration with third party payment gateways or processing
- comprehensive reporting tools
- competent and reliable technical support
- POS (Point of Sale) capability
- Please review various e-commerce Shopping Carts currently available on the market. Then select three (3)
- Shopping Cart solutions that come the closest in meeting the current and future specific inventory and sales
- volume needs of the company (listed above). Include at least one (1) Self-hosted Shopping Cart and one (1)
- Hosted Shopping Cart solution. Then review the features & functionality, and advantages & disadvantages of
- each of the three (3) Shopping Cart options and compare and contrast them in the presentation.
Make sure you
- compare and contrast various functionality, features, plans, and pricing across the three (3) solutions (make
- sure you include all the key requirements listed above).
- Finally identify which is the best Shopping Cart option for your company and explain why it was selected. If you
- decide to recommend a Hosted solution, please identify which specific plan(s) and pricing option(s) is/are
- required to handle current and future inventory and sales volumes. Present your findings to the CIO via a
- professional, substantive, and visually rich PowerPoint Presentation that meets all of the presentation guidelines
listed below.
Presentation Guidelines:
Prepare a minimum 15-content-slide (excluding the Title and References slides) PowerPoint Presentation that
is professional, substantive, well structured and organized, and visually rich.
1 Title slide + 15 (min) Content slides + 1 References List slide
Each content slide should have sufficient content to clearly communicate the information covered. Make sure
the content is properly formatted, readable, and professional (free of spelling and grammar mistakes). Please
use headings, multiple bullet points, and short phrases. Don’t include large blocks of text!
At least 12 of the content slides must include visually supportive graphics or images that enhance and
complement the content on each slide. You must use complementary and different graphics/images/charts to
support and enhance your presentation. If you use the same image or graphic on multiple content slides, it
will only count as one (1) visual element for purposes of grading. Slide background theme alone does not
count as a visual element.
Use the Notes area of each slide to provide background information, additional support, and/or
clarification(s) for the content on each slide.
Provide a Title slide and a final slide for your References, fully cited in APA style and formatting. Do not
count these two slides in the total 15 content slides required for the PowerPoint content.
Submit your professional and substantive PowerPoint Presentation as a properly formatted MS-PowerPoint
file.
The comparing and contrasting analysis must be your own analysis written in your own words that you
put together and organized based on the research of the three (3) E-commerce Shopping Carts you selected,
not a comparison that someone else has done and you copied and pasted into the presentation slides.
Presentation Content Breakdown (15 content slides minimum):
2-3 slides – Introduction (Background Info, Preliminary review of Shopping Cart Options, etc.)
2-3 slides – Features/Functionality, Advantages & Disadvantages of Shopping Cart #1
2-3 slides – Features/Functionality, Advantages & Disadvantages of Shopping Cart #2
2-3 slides – Features/Functionality, Advantages & Disadvantages of Shopping Cart #3
3-4 slides – Compare/Contrast Features/Functionality Across all 3 Shopping Carts
2-3 slides – Identify Best Shopping Cart Solution and Explain Reasons Why
Additional Guidance – Do not spend time outlining generic Shopping Carts ideas or discussing definitions of
cart types, etc.. Focus fully on reviewing, evaluating, and comparing and contrasting the various features,
functionality, and options of three (3) Shopping Carts solutions you selected for consideration. Make sure each of them meets the minimum requirements listed above. Then conclude by identifying the one Shopping Cart
solution that is the best for your company and provide clear and detailed explanations why you make this
recommendation.
— Originality Report — An assignment this level should never include more than 20% verbatim quoted
information. You are being judged on your own work and analysis not someone else’s. No single source should
have a similarity index above 5%.
— Turnitin.com Check — I regularly submit student assignments to Turnitin.com in order to check for properly
referenced material and to verify there is no plagiarism. Turnitin.com uses a very large database of information
that covers not only the entire information available on the Internet, but also checks against existing paper
writing services, academic papers from hundreds of universities, and previously submitted work from students
across the country. I also randomly select student assignments and submit them to be checked with this
service.
