Read the information in the textbook about factors that increase personal risk of heart disease. The South is sometimes designated the “stroke belt” due to the high incidence of stroke and heart attack in our region. Memphis is often named as one of the most unhealthy cities and Mississippi as one of the most unhealthy states.
- What lifestyle behaviors (physical activity, dietary habits, tobacco use, stress, etc.) do you think contribute to the high rate of heart attack and stroke in our area and our demographic groups? Address each of the four above specified behaviors- physical activity, dietary habits, tobacco use and stress.
- What are your personal risk factors that cannot be changed? (If you do not want to address your personal risk factors – address those generally found in our area’s demographic group.)
- What risk factors do you have that can be changed to decrease your risk of heart attack? (If you do not want to address your personal risk factors, address those generally found in our area’s demographic groups.)
- Is it likely that you will make those changes? Why or why not? (If you do not want to address this personally, address the possibility of change with our general population.) DO NOT simply repeat information from another student’s posting. You must contribute some new information.
