DQ2-1 Responses
After taking the self-assessment I scored a 29. This shows that I am not a strong destructive leader which I was sure of already. Often times people in higher positions fail to realize the difference between a manager and a leader. One can be a manager, but not an efficient leader. It is about not taking advantage of the title by treating those below you like they do not exist, but the goal is to cultivate their skills in order to build them to be the future leaders of the company.
In regard to public administration values and understanding that no person should be treated as less than is essential. Public administrator caters to the public and are often in the job not for the pay check, but in order to serve. I believe that public administrators must most understand and “resist dangers posed by possessing too much power while making sure that followers aren’t corrupted by having too little,” (Johnson, 2013).
This means that although public administrators have power to enforce enacted laws down to the public that they do such in a way that serves the public at the same time, rather than doing whatever they want essentially because they can like Trump and the shutdown. He has so much power, he knows this, he has the ability to shut the government down and thus abused that power and did so no matter how many Americans were affected at the end.

DQ2-2 Response
After completing the assessment, I decided to look more in depth at my personal approach. Based on my assessment I would use any power that I had in a positive manner. Reading the material strengthened my ethical standpoint. No matter the circumstances we must never take advantage of the power we hold. It is clear that power is a moving force in public administration and can be self motivated or motivated through the common good. The important thing to remember is for people to utilize their power for the greater good. Meaning that any course of action that is taking has an underlying circumstance that requires the implementation of power to be productive in public administration. No matter how tempting it can be public administrators that yield power; should do so with the best interest in regard to policy in public administration. A prime example of this is when a person who is in a position of power is faced with a administrative decision that can impact them or their team in a negative way. When something like this occurs; it is essential that people who are in positions of power, need to refer to proper procedures and remain professional and not abuse their power.
