PARAGRAPH #1 : DISCUSSION 1 BUSN 265
There are multiple reasons that management can take opposing views on unionization. Some are valid, some are self-serving, and some are even both. A primary reason, near the top of many lists, is the cost associated with allowing a union. There is obvious validity here: a half-decent personal attorney is extremely pricey; a highly specialized and well-versed union attorney is that much more costly. Another reason is that there is strength in numbers. One grumbling employee won’t get much traction to cause a company to change policy, procedure, pay, etc., but a collective voice that’s willing to go the extra mile to fight for the voice of the workforce can take some of the control away from the management. A third reason is that businesses can come in danger of becoming less competitive in their respective markets. Unions typically raise pay wages, and if the skill-level isn’t increasing as well, it can have a direct result on consumers and the bottom line of the company.
PARAGRAPH #2 : JOBS Discussion BUSN 221
I selected human resource specialist and manager. Searching monster.com and careerbuilder.com I found that there was an average of 152 jobs for human resource manager and an average of 110 for a human resource specialist in the Indiana area.As far as what I could tell for these two positions I do think that there was quite a bit that could overlap. They seemed to have very similar requirements, even though there were a few differences. As far as the assistant position overlapping, I do not believe that they do as much. There might be a couple of things, but for the most part I believe that the manager position has a completely different role than the assistant has. Managers have more to do with leading the unit , leadership development, ensure that all practices are being followed legally. An assistant has more to do with interviewing , being familiar with benefits to help employees, recruiting, doing more of the administrative duties of the office. The part that I do see overlapping is that they both need to be knowledgeable about the legality parts of HR . I feel like in this day and age most everything is online. and that with all the social networking this is the best way to reach people. I’m sure that there are still those ones that read a newspaper, but again that is even online now, so I think the best way to reach people is through the internet.I have mixed feelings about the recruitment process online. I’m sure that it saves the company money by internet applications, it probably also helps narrowing the candidates down for a specific job. However, my problem is that someone might not have the best resume or maybe not have an outstanding application, but if they were interviewed they might have a dynamic personality and the qualifications to match. Sometimes I think that its helpful to see someone in person. I believe that no matter what the recruiting process it is sometimes difficult to find the candidate who has it all.

I found that there are 22,713 jobs in human resource in the state of Indiana. I found there was 27 jobs for a Human Resource assistant and 66 jobs for a generalist.
An assistant has a narrowed down position while generalist have a wide position. I don’t think they could have the same job description as they are different roles.
I think the jobs are posted on the internet because the word is spread easier with it being in the local paper only local people will get it.
Online recruiting is a great business strategy you get a wide spread of people looking at it verses a newspaper.
