Children with a visual or hearing impairment may need an alternate way of learning new things then those with no visual or hearing impairment. When teaching about a new topic with a picture book for other students a visually impaired student may need a physical item put in his or her hand. For example, when learning about a the different coins they can be placed in his or her hand so that he or she can feel the difference in the physical attributes of each coin. As well an oral description of each coin can be made. Technology can be a great way to assist these students as well. For example, a talking calculator can help assist with math equations. When each number is pushed it is spoken out loud, as well as the operation and then answer. I am sure each button has braille on it as well to help them figure out which button to push. This will help the student become more independent in math.
