Research proposal: hawaiian cuisine and its influences
Is Hawaiian Food Really Indigenous to Hawaii?
Intro – Make sure to describe your definition of Hawaiian cuisine as food that utilizes ingredients grown in Hawaii not simply food prepared there.
Paragraph 1: Explain the concept of immigrants bringing their own ingredients and methods of cooking from their homeland to the places they inhabit.
Paragraphs Following: Give specific examples of common Hawaiian ingredients and what race of people brought them to Hawaii. Why did those people come to Hawaii?
Examples:
Polynesian voyagers brought coconuts and taro.
Americans/Europeans brought Spam and Pineapple.
Chinese came to hawaii to work on plantations. They brought Li Hing Mui and introduced the stir fry technique.
Japanese came to Hawaii during WWII. They introduced many rice and fish dishes.
Conclusion:
ALthough Hawaiian food does not consist of Hawaiian ingredients, what makes it Hawaiian is the fact that it is made up of ingredients from a hodge podge of different cultures.
