CRJ 3430 Research Paper Requirements
This course has two requirements for a research paper. First, you are to write a research paper on one of the below topics. After selecting which topic you wish to address, research it thoroughly. Your paper is to be from 6 to 8 pages in length, typewritten, in 12 point Ariel type, space and a half. 
You are to use a minimum of five sources for your paper. Do not use Wikipedia as it is not an acceptable or valid source for academic research. Citations are to be in the APA format. If you go to the Outside Links page of the course shell, you will find a link to using the APA format. Your paper will have a Title Page, an abstract, 6-8 pages of content using the APA format, and a final page of headed “References” that will list all sources used for your paper. The Title page, Abstract and References pages are not a part of the page count of 6-8 pages
Once you have completed your research and your paper, you are to develop a PowerPoint presentation on your research. You will make an oral presentation on your paper on the dates listed in your course syllabus. When doing your research, you may wish to copy and save pictures found in the sources. Pictures, charts, and other grahics can help “spice up” PowerPoint presentations.

ABSTRACT
An abstract is a self-contained, short, and powerful statement that describes the research paper. An abstract is not a review, nor does it evaluate the work being abstracted. It describes the topic to be discussed. While it contains key words found in the larger work, the abstract is an original document rather than an excerpted passage.
TOPIC
When discussing your topic of choice, first discuss both sides of the issue. Lay out the facts and arguments for each as listed in the topic. Then, under a heading of Conclusion, argue your perception of mistakes made, if any, and what could have been done to have a better result, investigation, prevention, etc.
REFERENCES
The references are listed by author in alphabetical order. If the author is unknown, as sometimes occurs with on-line sources, the item is listed by the title of the article. No source is listed by the web site from which it came, but that web site is referenced by “…taken from the web site of…”
TOPIC CHOICES
Topic #1: The Rodney King Riot. Were there any warning signs that could have prevented the event? Describe the event. Who were the participants?
