Discussion one
Over the last 7 weeks, I have learned a lot in this class. The best part about this class is it gives us a perspective on workplace organization and how it relates to our everyday lives. Also being able to compare and contrast with classmates really allowed me to see the different opinions of individuals and how they can relate to our everyday lives as employees and leaders within our organization. Also, questions on why people do the things that they do within the workforce really made more sense and were possibly answered throughout the course.
I learned that my organization is not perfect and they need to be developed professionally and for the better of the university. As for my place, its a decent place but with my opinion and ideas I need to move up in order to be heard or taken seriously. My job is considered to be at the bottom of the totem pole. Also, my strengths and weaknesses are more apparent after this class. It shows me that I am a very emotional persona and care more than what I should which could be a weakness and a strength. As for improvements, I plan to advance myself more professionally and gain development in any way possible outside of the university.
Discussion 2
his course was one of my most challenging courses thus far. It required more work and time than I have had to put into any other class so far. With that I found this class to be rewarding. I learned a lot about the different types of leaders there are, what makes for a good leader, and how to become a successful leader myself. This class allowed me to get to know myself more as someone who works on teams, but also want to own a business. The personal development plan helps me to navigate through my strengths and opportunities for growth as both an employee and a future entrepreneur. Without this assignment, I would not have taken the time to evaluate myself on that level.
This course has also allowed me to see how workplace management can make or break an organization. The assignment on creating a team-building plan for the SME company was beneficial because those are things I can take into my actual workplace whenever we get back. I think some of the things discussed in that assignment can make many workspaces better with knowing different ways to handle certain situations that may come up. It is also something I can refer to in the future.
With this course and some of the assignments. I have already begun working on things that I can change, especially for myself. My weaknesses were centered around my attitude when I am disrespected. I noticed that all disrespect does not have to be accompanied by more disrespect. I can handle things better while still getting my point across and not being on the other person’s level. All things take work and time, but without this course, these are somethings that I may not have thought about unless they came upon an evaluation. I would rather have them fixed before they reach that point.
