Students answer:
The Bill of Rights was created by our founding fathers on December 15th, 1791. These 10 laws are federal laws, and serve as our most important laws to this very day. These 10 laws are like the United States version of the 10 commandments. Although these laws cannot be changed, state governments have their own rights when it comes to making their laws, and this is where it can become a slippery slope. This brings us to the question of should the constitution provide the same protections for all citizens against actions of state governments, or should it be up to each state whether to protect fundamental rights for citizens within the state?
Being from the south, specifically Georgia, I can tell you that it is different than other parts of the country. The demographics are quite different than Washington. In the south religion is a big part of society. Even though I am not a Christian it was always a part of my childhood. Even though “church” and “state” are supposed to be separate, it is not always the case. The new “Heartbeat Bill” is making national headlines. But why is this law making so much noise? Well, Row V Wade is a federal law stating that abortion is legal and up to the woman, But Georgia is outlawing it. My personal opinion is that I think this is a violation of the constitution. It completely violates a supreme court decision. In my opinion it is not up to the state to make these type of constitutional decisions, as the federal Government and constitution must provide the same protection for all its citizens no matter where they live, what color their skin is, or what gender they are.
The federal Government is the law of the land. Thats the final word. Thats the meaning of federalism. Thats why we aren’t the confederate states of America. The articles of confederation failed for a reason. The state Governments should not have more power then the Federal Government. No matter what state you are in you fall under the Federal government. The constitution, specifically the bill of rights is what this country was founded on. thats what our founding fathers dreamed of and brought to fruition over 200 years ago.
