Reflection Paper # 1: The Birth of a Nation (D.W. Griffith, 1915)
History and Formation of Hollywood narrative Filmmaking Please write an essay of 500 words in which you analyze D. W. Griffith’s The Birth of a Nation by focusing on two dimensions: the historical significance of this film in American cinema, and the foundational contribution of the movie to the formation of Hollywood style of narrative filmmaking (character psychology, parallel editing, and suspense).
