Different Truth

When I was 10 years old my dad gave me a book about philosophy which talks about what are the differenttruths. I did not quite understand what the book was trying to say at first. However, I started to understand it as I grew up.I learned that the chances of the subjective truth hurting are high because it can lead to controversies when not proved. For example, recently you often see your friend’s ex-boyfriend trying to stop your friend on her way to class, and your friend seems unhappy. You felt uncomfortable with that, so you decide to warn her ex-boyfriend to leave her alone or you will call police. The story ends with your friend blame you and tell you to mind your own business. In this case, your subjective truth is “Her ex-boyfriend is hostile to her”. However objectively they have no hostile to each other at all.

In the introduction of the book, it described brain in a jar is a scenario used in a mind experiment. Assume your brain is taken out from your head and put into a jar that can keep the brain alive. Then scientists connect your brain to a supercomputer and input sensory signals to make you think everything is as usual. Here questions come, I asked myself what if “brain in a jar” exist in real life?Will the truth we believe still true? Or is there any truth that just my truth? After that I felt like the book was reading my mind, because the following that itexplained what subjective truth and objective truth are.

Subjective truth is based on personal impressions to something, opinions, feelings, and perception of the matter. There is no way an individual can refer to the norms which have been established in the society or make affirmative confirmation. The truth about the matter depends on the experience of the person, knowledge, and understanding. In philosophy,idealism theory is used for the subjective truth. The theory shows that the existence of the matter depends on the opinion or the idea which found in the mind of the individual. Therefore, the subjective truth depends on the opinion which is given by a person in regard something. It is difficult to put it into scientific analysis or to make an observation concerning it. The truth depends on the person’s experience, knowledge, and understanding. The truth can be disapproved depending on the argument which is presented by the people giving or receiving the information. This kind of truth consists of the statements which have personal judgment, rumors, assumption, and suspicion. Therefore, subjective truth relies on philosophical opinions and something is true based on the particular individual. For the subjective truth to be proven not true, there should be oppositions which present evidence why the truth is not correct. The nature of the matter determines whether it is true or not.

Objective truth is represented in the form of facts, and everything is determined based on the factual basis.  It does not have ambiguity, and it is unbiased. Objective truth is accepted without people giving confrontation, controversies because the reality of the matter is presented. The method for proving whether something is true is represented, the correct methods are adapted through analyzing the one which is true and testing so that it is proved true or not.  The process of determining whether something is true can be achieved through people working together and sharing of knowledge concerning it.  Objective truth can change depending on the circumstance of occurrence, time in which it occurs and places. However, if there are changes which take place, the first truth has to be used as a reference point of the matter. Objective implies that there is acceptance of the matter by all cultures and all people in every time. Example of the objective truth is the religious doctrine which is accepted by people because of the moral values it offers to the people. Religion teaches moral values which have truth in them, and they are connected to human life. In the objective truth, people accept the reality or the truth about the matter even if they do not recognize something as true.

Things had far-reaching influence on me. It not only helped me to see things objectively and guided me to make right decision in certain circumstances, but also taught me to always seek common points while reserving difference.
