The short story I chose was ” A Good Man is Hard to Find.” Upon reading this, I have identified this as the third person. More so, I believe it was third person limited. It was told from the grandmother’s perspective. You were not informed of any happenings before the fact. The story followed her inner thoughts and feelings. She was present the whole time. The point of view was not all-knowing, because you only found out who the misfit was when she found out. The grandmother shrieked. She scrambled to her feet and stood to stare. “You’re The Misfit!” she said. “I recognized you at once!”(Oconnor, 2013, p.117).
This is the best used in my opinion. It allowed for a bit of mystery. If it was the third person all knowing, then too many details would be given. It would read that the misfit saw the car and approached. It basically adds to the unknowing. It also gave you a chance to understand the grandmother and how she is a person. It leaves it up to the reader to decide instead of her in the first person with a biased view of herself and the men she encounters in her life. It also allows you to judge her actions in going down to the old house.
