For my final paper, I have chosen the global societal issue of indoor air pollution and the effects on public health. Indoor air pollution is often overlooked when discussion air pollution and the negative effects it has on the environment and public health. However, we spend more time at home than anywhere else and there are multiple factors contributing to major chronic health conditions leading to death that are directly related to indoor air pollutants within our homes. The main challenge of indoor air pollution is that the harmful chemicals and other factors are often invisible and therefor goes unnoticed and undetected.
Provide a clear and concise thesis statement that includes a solution to the global societal issue.
The goal of this research paper is to discuss the negative effects of indoor air pollution which impacts public health, the economy including inequality and vulnerability of specific populations, the problems associated from poor public awareness and the need for improved governmental involvement and global commitment.
Explain how this global societal issue impacts a specific population.
Although most every home has some contributing factors to indoor air pollution that negatively effect health; vulnerable populations such as the poor and elderly have an increased exposure rate and increased chronic health conditions. The elderly and poor often have older homes that contain materials with known chemicals that contribute to air pollution and are connected with health conditions such as heart disease, stroke, asthma, pneumonia, COPD, and several cancers. Additional factors such as smoke produced from cooking methods, smoking, and heating are more common in these vulnerable populations.

The global societal issue I have chosen to do is how AI and technology have affected the labor market, specifically blue-collar jobs. I believe further research is needed on this topic because technology and AI are very prevalent in today’s world. New improvements to AI and technology make our lives easier and more efficient. In addition, our economy and society rely heavily on AI and technology to function from day-to-day.

My thesis statement is, ” While the rise of artificial intelligence and technology will bring a demand for specialized labor, by limiting the use of artificial intelligence and technology, the labor market will have protection.”

A specific population that has been impacted by the focus on AI and technology in the workplace is clerical careers. With the use of automatic filing systems, much of the administrative field has been redefined, according to Lewis (1996). This population is an excellent example of many different labor populations that have been affected by AI and technology.
