Week 2 – Discussion 1

Your initial discussion thread is due on Day 3 (Thursday) and you have until Day 7 (Monday) to respond to your classmates. Your grade will reflect both the quality of your initial post and the depth of your responses.

You are a middle school social studies teacher with several ELL students whose first language is Russian.  You want to work with one of the school’s ELL teachers to provide a plan to help your Russian-speaking students improve their English skills. She suggests that an error analysis is a good place to begin.  

Using the six-step analysis plan found in Section 4.4 of your text as a starting place, create your own plan to incorporate research-based practices to reduce language error. Be sure to include at least two research-based citations to help enhance your plan.

Guided Response: Review at least two of your classmates’ plans, and suggest improvements.  Provide a research-based rationale for your suggestions.  Also, be sure to address to any questions from classmates and the instructor.
