Based on my observation of some recent happenings, I want to bring it to your notice that the approach used to handle human emotions in our organization is somewhat problematic and it needs your attention so that a workable solution could be find out.

Recently a situation happened in IT department which raised my concern regarding the policies and approach used in organization to handle human emotions. The situation involved Miss Susan Robert from IT department where she showed some negative emotions and she was immediately swiped for her expression of emotions by her supervisor Mr. Daniel Gilbert. He not only bashed her for showing negative emotions but she was also strictly told to leave her negative emotions home. The whole department was shocked to observe such a hideous situation as previously at some points other employees also showed negative emotions and it was considered normal.

This situation made me realize one things: the inability of some team members in handling human emotions whether negative or positive. I think Mr. Gilbert handled the situation very poorly and needs to right his wrong. As it was later discovered that Miss Robert had recently lost a family member in a car accident and that is why she was upset and could not contain her negative emotions inside her.

Human emotions originate from the central and focal thoughts in human mind. They determine human behavior. Human emotions make humans. They deiced how anyone will behave and carry on his or her life. Humans must be accepted with complete spectrum of human emotions, both positive and negative. The order by Mr. Gilbert was unrealistic when he called Miss Robert to leave her negative emotions home while coming for work. It was unreasonable and unfair. (Chignell, 2018)

Human emotions must be respected and most importantly viewed as ‘normal’ rather than bashing and demeaning someone for having them. Because everyone has emotions. No human can be avoid of them. Hence expecting someone to act as robot and leave emotions at home is irrational and insane. Also it is important to mention that the reaction of Mr. Gilbert to Miss Robert’s situation was also emotional and not include of positive emotions. He criticized her for having negative emotions when at the same moment he himself showed negative emotions toward her.

This incident created a concern among all the employees that if we were at the place of Miss Robert, is this how our supervisor would have treated us. This rang a bell among us all that we are not valued enough in our own organization and we are not safe here. I know this is not true, our organization considers its employees as key asset but communication of such sentiment is more important than it ever was. It is about time, that organization take some act and public apology from Mr. Gilbert will be a good start. When he did a wrong act, it was in front of whole department, his apology must also be in front of everyone. It will not only make up for Ms. Robert but also help alienate the concerns of other employees.

I am writing this memo to provide my recommendation to the concerned higher authorities for a re-consideration of hiring and training objectives of our staff. I would recommend to Human resource department to consider handling challenging situation like this as an important factor while hiring new employees. The human resource committee which supervises training and growth programs need to focus on choosing such employees who are more open and respectful for opposite gender, races, ethnic groups, religion and nationalities. Employees must learn to respect each other as human being not as man or woman or black and white.

As a firm, we are family and we hold collective responsibility for each other’s well-being including the well-being of emotional health of our employees. We need a commitment for having empathy for human relations and be kind towards each other. Human emotions need to be understood, and resolved rather condemned. (Cherry, 2019)
