In return for the office space, temporarily nursing staff, and general goodwill of being associated with Eau Claire General Hospital, the hospital required that Nancy follow the hospital’s medical staff bylaws, keep medical records, attend a hospital orientation program, participate in continuing education programs, and agree to take calls (treat) patients from the emergency room.
After working at the hospital for about a year, Nancy’s father’s health turned for the worse, and he passed away. Nancy became severely depressed after her father’s death, and she stopped regularly treating patients. For example, one week she would meet with her patients and take ER patients, and then, the next week, she might cancel her appointments for three or four days with little or no notice to the hospital that she was not coming to work.
After three months of this, the hospital rescinded their agreement with Nancy, and the hospital informed her that she could no longer use her office space in the hospital and the hospital was terminating their relationship with her.
