Guidelines for Cultural (Fine Arts) Reports
- Choose events that showcase fine arts (painting, sculpture, drama, photography, literature, music, or dance) on exhibit or in performance.
- Choose live performances and original art, not those recorded or reproduced.
- Let me know your plans in advance.
- Be sure that most of the artists are at least 16 years old.
- Bring your original ticket stub, receipt, or program if any were distributed.
- Try to vary your eventsand experience different media (music, painting, drama).
- When you attend an event, take notes: date and time, title of the performance/exhibit, artist’s/performer’s name. Describe the audience: who, specifically, is enjoying this event around you? This will create material for the introductory paragraph.
- Choose two sculptures, songs, paintings, or pieces to discuss in detail. Note what you respond favorably to, and why. Also note what you didn’t like. This will create material for the body paragraphs. I want analysis and description above all with plenty of detail, even if you didn’t like the event.
- For the conclusion, write down your impressions of the entire visit.
- Submit your essay on Turnitin.com by 11:59 pm on the due date.
- I don’t require five paragraphs or a three-part thesis statement, but I do expect organization, development, analysis, and proofreading. Write at least 500 words. Double space the entire document. Don’t underline the title or put quotes around it. Use Times New Roman Font. Use standard spelling, punctuation, and grammar; they count. When referring to an author/artist, use the full name first, then last name only.
