Piggy. Ralph’s apprentice focused on supporting Ralph in upholding sanity and order in the group. Piggy uses rationalism and scientific innovation to help the boys remain positive. He invents a sundial that helps them tell time, and his glasses help start and keep rescue fire.

Simon. He is a sensitive human who relies on kindness and works towards ensuring positivity amongst the boys. Simon holds moral acts as the basis for relating with others. This enables him to interact with all boys, including rebels who aggressively attack him. Simon is subjected to epilepsy attacks that leave him with illusions of a pig in his head, “Lord of the Flies.”

Roger. Serves as a disciplinary master under the authoritarian rule of Jack. He uses cruelty while interacting with others, as Roger’s pleasure is from persecuting fellow boys.

Sammeric. This represents two characters (identical twins), Eric and Sam. They do all activities together such that they are treated as one. Sammeric act as a follower that does not rely on their thinking to make informed decisions. They do not rely on their principles but follow the leaders (Ralph or Jack) based on the cloud.

The Beast. At first, the beast is viewed as an imagined creature resulting from the fear accumulated by the boys. Jack takes advantage of the fear in the group to bring down Ralph. This act helps confirm the real beast as the enemy of progress brought about by the savage, uncivilized, and violent acts of Jack and his followers.

The Lords of the Flies. This is the illusion of a pig head that Simon talks to during his epileptic attacks. The creature represents the inhumane acts adopted by most boys.

Naval Officer. This is the marine team leader that helps rescue the boys. The officer helps bring light to the boys that had almost given up.

Lord of the flies book summary

You should address the gradual events in every chapter to write a thorough Lord of the Flies analysis. Each chapter indicates actions upheld by the boys in an attempt to survive away from grown-ups. Here are the happenings per chapter:

Chapter 1

Piggy and Ralph use the conch to summon the rest of the group. They address the issue of being isolated from a society with rules. Ralph proposes a leader that will help govern the group selected. The team elects Ralph, leaving Jack dissatisfied as he had voted for himself. He then decides to create his followers, “hunters.”

Chapter 2

After their gathering, the boys ascend the mountain to help identify their isolation area (island). While trying to descend the mountain, they come across a beast. Jack is determined to kill the beast, but the others are against it. They demand peace and happiness while on the island.

In an attempt to seek help, Ralph gets the idea to start a fire at the top of the mountain. The fire spreads across the woods.

Chapter 3

Apart from the fire, Simon and Ralph build shelter “huts” for the group. Other group members take their time to enjoy themselves by hunting and other swimming.

Chapter 4

The delayed rescue mission left the order in the group ruined. The boys started engaging in different acts in the woods. More time, the woods left the boys to overthink the presence of a beast in the forest. Ralph uses reasoning to calm the group from false imagination, while Jack increases the fear by promising to fight off the beat.

Chapter 5

The hunters’ group successfully hunts a pig, prompting Jack to take pride in his actions. The team identified a ship from a distance but realized their fire had gone out. This brings Ralph down as his mission fails. He tries to give up, but Piggy encourages him to remain strong. Ralph calls for a meeting and asks the boys to use the fire on the mountain to cook for it to keep burning.

Chapter 6

While at the fireplace, Sammeric sees a body of a dead person on a parachute. They call Ralph to help them, but he does not see anybody.

Chapter 7

Around the mountains, Jack goes hunting. He comes across a pig which, together with his followers, he hits on the head. They gather around the fireplace and realize the dead body Sammeric was talking about is hanging in the trees.

Chapter 8

Ralph is filled with fear that the dead person is a confirmation of the beast. The team realizes Ralph is now fearful, and Jack tries replacing him. All boys continue supporting Ralph as the leader, leaving Jack to maintain his team (Roger, Bill, Maurice).

While watching the hunters, Simon starts hallucinating- with the dead pig being surrounded by insects. He then refers to its as “Lord of the Flies. Simon holds a conversation with the pig- that the beast in the woods is in all the boys and that he is not safe. Simon faints from increased fear.

Chapter 9

Simon realizes that the beast is the dead man in a parachute. He calls others and gives them the news. But Jack and Ralph get into a fight over leadership. This leaves Simon dead, after which a strong wind carries away the dead person.

Chapter 10

Jack’s dictatorship escalates as he ties up one of the boys (Wilfred). He also incites Maurice and Rogers to raid Ralph’s camp, where they steal Piggy’s glasses.

Chapter 11

A fight breaks out when Ralph tries to get Piggy’s glasses in Jack’s camp. Here, Piggy ends up being crashed. This prompts Eric and Sam to join Jack’s tribe as they view him as stronger than Ralph.

Chapter 12

Jack tries turning everyone against Ralph. He starts by torturing Sam and Eric into being his loyal member. The leader of the hunters’ group promises to kill Ralph.
