Blog Post Assignment | Homework for You
People like to read news. Some companies, like major industry leaders, are able to break that news to their customers immediately when it happens. Most companies (and bloggers) don’t have that luxury. They rely on a tactic known as “newsjacking” to take advantage of current events
Newsjacking sounds shady, but it’s actually a great strategy to mix your own opinions into an existing news story. You start by framing some current event relevant to your topic, then delve into your blog’s position on the matter, including how your hobby/passion/topic might change in response to it.
In your introduction, your first sentence will include title, author, and topic and point of view of the author (not your usual hook). Then you will summarize the article in 2 – 3 sentences. The final sentence will be your thesis statement about how, or to what degree, your point of view has changed.
You need a minimum of 3 body paragraphs. You want to discuss how you thought before you read the article; how you were influenced by the article; and now, how your thoughts on the matter have changed.
Conclude with a one-sentence conclusion (FI)–make it strong.
Opinionated newsjacking posts are beneficial because they provide raw, current information to your reader. They are excellent tools to build trust with your audience because they provide factual information, and they present you as a leading authority in your space on the tip of the information curve.
Again, check the rubric for how this post will be graded.
Remember the 2 items you always need:
Appropriately written title
Introduction & conclusion (both labelled) sandwiching the body
