Not only is cultural identity based on many different factors—gender, ethnicity, and religion, to name a few—it is also ever-shifting. As you age and develop and as the society around you changes as well, so too does your relationship with this society and thus the composition of your cultural identity. Cultural identity can be especially dynamic during childhood and adolescence. This is because children and adolescents are constantly renegotiating their senses of self and their relationships with others as they develop and mature at an often rapid pace.
