Case study: The patient is a 32 y/o single Hispanic female, who explains that she has very few friends and goes out of her way to help others. However, she feels everyone seems to have abandoned her. She then burst into tears. Patient was observed to be pacing around in the office, making wild hand gestures to explain the reason why she is at clinic. Patient reports she is impulsive and just bought a car she cannot pay for. She blames her friend who promised to loan her some money for the car and then backed out of the agreement. She also blames her boyfriend who she refers to as a “jerk and monster” for breaking up with her. Patient is always blaming others for all her misfortunes. Patient could barely keep a job, either she gets fired or she just quits. She stated her coworkers are always jealous of her. Patient has a history of multiple incarceration for cashing checks under alias, stealing from customers, possession of controlled substance to firearms, and on several occasion for fighting. Patient is alert and oriented x 4. She reports her mood as “terrible”. Affect is labile and seems to change rapidly with the subject being discussed.
Diagnosis: Antisocial Personality Disorder. Be certain to link specific symptoms presented in the case to DSM-5 criteria to support the diagnosis.
