Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA)
Please read and watch the included materials regarding FMLA below and attached. Then post your initial response to the following questions:
1. Many of the policies we have looked at this semester have been altered due to COVID-19. What are your thoughts on the expanded family and medical leave under the Family First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA)? In what ways does the expansion help support families? In what ways does the expansion still not meet the needs of families?
2. How do you think the FFCRA affects small businesses, in terms of staffing, the employee’s not showing up to work, etc? Note: eligible, working parents may take the paid leave even if they have childcare available or if they are not sick with the virus; and some small businesses may not have the infrastructure in place to allow employees to telework.
3. At the end of 2019, President Trump signed a bill that would approve 12 weeks of paid parental leave (birth of a child, adoption, or foster care) for federal workers. The United States is the only developed country without paid parental leave. Why do you think it is so controversial?
