National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards

Assignment Outline: The National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards (NSQHS Standards, 20171) were developed by the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care (ACSQHC) in 2011 to protect the public from harm and to improve the quality of health service provision. One of the area’s identified by the Commission as having significant issue for health care organizations is “Clinical Handover”.
Registered Nurses (RNs) utilize relevant literature and research findings to improve their clinical practice (ANMAC, 2010). Consequently, Registered Nurses (RN) are required to demonstrate analytical skills in accessing and evaluating health information and research evidence. The aim of this assessment is to develop a student’s capacity to critically review, evaluate and synthesize current evidenced based literature as it relates to bedside clinical handover. Specifically, the student is required to explore the systems and strategies currently implemented in clinical nursing practice to enable timely, accurate, relevant and structured bedside clinical handover.
Typically literature reviews comprise five stages, problem identification, literature search, data evaluation, data analysis and presentation. Thus, this essay will have the following components
Introduction
Problem identification: In this section the student is to state the purpose, scope, aim/rationale of the review. The contribution of bedside clinical handover to the holistic care of patients and/or its impact on patient safety is to be explored in the adult population only.
Literature search: In this section the student is to state specific databases, search terms and any additional strategies that were utilised to assist in the formulation of inclusion and exclusion search criteria. The time period for the literature search is from 2014 until present.
Data Evaluation: In this section of the essay the student is required to compare and contrast the results from the six (6) studies listed below. Students will be able to access the journal articles through the University of Melbourne Library page.
Presentation: Students are to submit as an appendix a summary table that succinctly outlines the key characteristics of the six articles provided for review (e.g. author/year, methodology, method, design, sample, setting, major findings, and strengths/limitations etc.). The table is to be presented in landscape format not portrait.
Data Analysis: In this section of the essay the student is required to discuss the key findings (i.e. the overall results) from the research studies listed below. In addition, the student is required to explore the strengths and weakness of bedside clinical handover and the barriers and facilitators to its implementation in clinical practice.
• In addition to the six (6) articles for review that have been provided, at a minimum, a further five (5) peer reviewed nursing journal articles related to the phenomenon of interest are to be cited in text. Papers cited are to explore the use of clinical handover in the adult population only.

I wish the writer would have picked a more natural topic. Although the work is good, it is obvious that the writer of the material is African American. The fact that I am not African American raises questions.
