You are a middle school Physical Educator and Coach. The school has been successful in promoting the 7th and 8th grade modified soccer programs for both boys and girls. In the past two years these teams have seen enormous growth–the current system of one combined 7th and 8th grade team for each boys and girls is insufficient. It is estimated that this year there will be approximately 60-80 boys and 60-80 girls in each of the 7th and 8th grades interested in playing on the school team. The principal and athletic director have pledged support for the growth of this program.
Your task is to, based on your professional philosophy, develop a “Modified Soccer System” for this school. As you do, please address your concept of success for this program, facility and staffing needs, anticipated response from parents’, teachers’, administrators’ and students’ anticipated scheduling concerns for inter-school games, goals and a sampling of objectives for this program, and any other information you see as important in developing this program. You are the head coach, so all of the philosophy of the program and all of the programming needs are up to you! I am not looking for a practice-by-practice outline of activities or a specific season-long schedule of games.
